今回はシドニーでは有名なカフェ、Mecca Coffee (メッカコーヒー)に行ってきました。

Mecca Coffee (メッカコーヒー)とは What is Mecca Coffee
Mecca Coffee”（メッカコーヒー）とは、シドニー中心地(Sydney CBD)にあるキングストリート(King Street)で2005年に小さなカフェとしてスタートしたコーヒーブランドです。
“Mecca Coffee” is a coffee brand that started as a small café on King Street in Sydney CBD in 2005.

2005年に開業したコーヒーショップが何故これほど有名になったのか?

それは2005年に開業した当初から、自家焙煎にこだわっており豆の産地や焙煎方法を明確にしているからなのです。
Since its opening in 2005, it has been committed to home roasting, clearly specifying the origin of the beans and the roasting methods.
今でこそ豆の産地や焙煎方法を明確にしているカフェは多くありますが、この当時はこのMecca Coffee ぐらいしかしていなかったのです。
コーヒー豆が、「どこから来たのか」、「どのように育てられたのか」、「産地の特徴」など説明するスタイルや、カッピング体験を一般客にも体験してもらう取り組みを行い、 コーヒーをただの飲み物から「知識と体験の対象」に変えていきました。
Nowadays, there are many cafes that clearly specify the origin of their beans and their roasting methods, but at that time, only Mecca Coffee did this.
They introduced a style of explaining where the coffee beans came from, how they were grown, and the characteristics of their origin, and also provided cupping experiences for customers. Through these efforts, they transformed coffee from just a beverage into an object of knowledge and experience.
また地元コミュニティとのつながりも大事にしていました。
これらの活動が国際的にも評価されるようになり、Mecca Coffee(メッカコーヒー)は有名になりました。

今回訪れたお店 The shop I visited this time
今回訪れたお店はメッカコーヒー本店で、Mecca Coffee Alexandria店です。
住所は、26 Bourke Rd, Alexandria 2015になります。
The address is 26 Bourke Rd, Alexandria 2015.
場所は、電車ではGreen Square station (お店から約250メートル）、メトロでは、Waterloo station(お店から約1.2キロメートル）があります。
The shop I visited this time is the Mecca Coffee Alexandria branch.
As for the location, by train, there is Green Square Station (about 250 meters from the shop), and by metro, there is Waterloo Station (about 1.2 kilometers from the shop).
店内の様子 The interior of the shop
店内の様子ですが、以前倉庫だった建物をリノベーションし天井が高く開放感があります。自然光が入ってくるので落ち着いた雰囲気を醸し出していて、焙煎所(Roastery)、カッピング（コーヒーの試飲／比較）用スペース(Cupping Room)トレーニング施設(Tech Room)が併設されていました。
As for the interior of the shop, the building, which was previously a warehouse, has been renovated, giving it high ceilings and a sense of openness. Natural light streams in, creating a calm atmosphere, and it also houses a roastery, a cupping room for coffee tasting and comparison, and a training facility (Tech Room).
店内表示にも、Cupping Room、Tech Room、Roasteryとあります。
Inside the shop, there are signs for the Cupping Room, Tech Room, and Roastery.
平日お昼すぎに行ったので店内にはお客様がまばらでした。
I went in the early afternoon on a weekday, so the shop was sparsely populated with customers.
店内にはジャズが流れていてホッと一息つけれました 。
Jazz was playing in the shop, and I was able to relax for a moment.
コーヒー Coffee
席に座って一息ついてコーヒーをオーダーしました。
I sat down, took a breath, and ordered a coffee.
ラテアートが綺麗なコーヒー(フラットホワイト)がサーブされました。
A coffee (flat white) with beautiful latte art was served.
メッカのコーヒーは、コクがあり口に含むと口の中に1番にコーヒーを感じその後にフォームミルクがやってきて口の中でコーヒーが完成する感じです。コーヒーの香りが鼻に抜けてくる感がたまらない。コーヒーをのみ終わったあと少し残るコーヒーの苦味からコーヒー豆へのこだわりを感じました。
後味までコーヒーを楽しみたい方には嬉しいひと品です。
Mecca’s coffee has a rich flavor; when you take a sip, you first taste the coffee itself, followed by the foamed milk, creating a perfect coffee experience in your mouth. The aroma of the coffee lingering in your nose is irresistible. After finishing the coffee, the slight lingering bitterness makes you appreciate their dedication to the coffee beans.
This is a delightful choice for those who want to enjoy the taste of coffee down to the last sip.
ちなみにフラットホワイトとは、オーストラリア発祥のエスプレッソコーヒーで、エスプレッソに少量のきめ細かいフォームミルクが注がれていてコーヒーの風味とミルクのまろやかさが楽しめれる飲み物です.
By the way, a flat white is an espresso coffee that originated in Australia, with a small amount of finely textured milk foam poured over the espresso, allowing you to enjoy both the flavour of the coffee and the creaminess of the milk.
コーヒーだけでは無い It’s not just coffee.
メッカコーヒーはコーヒーで有名ですがフードもあります。
Mecca Coffee is famous for its coffee, but it also offers food.
充実しているメニューです。
下の写真がメニューの表になりますが、WINTER MENUとあるので季節によってメニューが変わるのかもしれないと思ってしまいます。
The photo below shows the menu, it says WINTER MENU, it makes me wonder if the menu changes with the seasons.
この件についてスタッフに聞けば良かったのですが聞きそびれてしまいました。

以前は3店舗あったのですが、シドニー市内中心部にある、King Street 店は、2005年6月から営業し2024年8月に閉店しました。この店がこのメッカコーヒーの始まりだったのですが19年の歴史を閉じました。
There used to be three shops, but the King Street shop in central Sydney opened in June 2005 and closed in August 2024. This shop was where Mecca Coffee began, but it has now closed after a 19-year history.
